SPORTS

Bodybuilding athletes build and control muscles by using progressive resistance exercises. The main focus area of bodybuilding is visual and revolves around physical appearance instead of endurance. Attributes like size, symmetry, muscularity, conditioning and posing determine judgement in bodybuilding competitions.

There is no scope for underdeveloped muscles or any weak points in world-class bodybuilding events. All the bodybuilding athletes minimize their body fat and underskin water to accentuate muscle quality in terms of definition, density and separation. Better highlighted muscles lead to higher scores. Perfect body proportion is another crucial aspect of assessment in bodybuilding competitions. An ideal bodybuilder flaunts broad shoulders, narrow waist, appropriately long legs and a complementing shorter upper body.

There are seven weight categories in men’s bodybuilding- 65kg, 70kg, 75kg, 80kg, 90kg, 100kg and over 100kg.

ASSESSMENT ROUNDS

There are three rounds of assessment in which the competitors are assigned ranks from top to last by the panel of judges.

Across a set of two physique assessment rounds, 3 to 8 competing athletes take the stage and perform a total of 7 obligatory poses instructed by the judges. Participating athletes pose barefoot, only wearing the posing trunks.

There is another one-minute round where the athletes are free to pose their figure with background music of their preference. This round comprises of performing compulsory and a few extra poses, allowing the athletes to flaunt aesthetic aspects of their bodies.
